Report on Valuation of Land required by the Military Authorities near Devil's Peak within the boundaries of the New Territory.
The Military Authorities having applied for a large tract of land, amounting to about 1,500 acres and forming a peninsula projecting from the mainland, in proximity to the Harbour of Hong Kong, it became necessary to have a valuation made in order to determine what amount should be paid by the Military Authorities to the Colonial Government for it.
As the peninsula in question formed part of the New Territory, it was necessary that the amount of compensation to be paid for lands, to which claims had been established, should be determined by the Land Court, as provided by Ordinance, but the question as to the valuation of the remainder of the land which was the property of the Crown, was referred to the Director of Public Works in the usual manner.
A statement is appended showing the valuation in detail, items 3, 4 and 5 being those which came within the scope of the Land Court and the remaining items those which were dealt with by the Director of Public Works.
Plans are also enclosed, one of which, marked A, shows the position of the land in relation to the Harbour and the other marked B, the method of dealing with the area for the purposes of valuation. These plans are not strictly accurate, but have been prepared from the best information available.
The peninsula consists of hilly land, such as...
